Covid Update

Germany to apply relaxed Covid entry rules until January 2023

The German government has announced that the country will continue to apply relaxed entry rules for all travellers until 31 January 2023. This means travellers can enter Germany without having to present a vaccination, recovery or test certificate.

The Netherlands has lifted all COVID-19 restrictions

The Netherlands has announced that all COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted, travellers no longer require a vaccination to enter, and no tests are needed. Guests transitioning through to another country should check the entry requirements for their final destination.

Canada to lift all COVID-19 travel restrictions

The Canadian government has announced the removal of all remaining COVID-19 entry restrictions. Travellers entering the country will no longer have to provide proof of vaccination, undergo testing or a period of quarantine or isolation.

Hong Kong drops hotel quarantine 

After 2 ½ years, Hong Kong has finally dropped hotel quarantine measures for oversea arrivals, but travellers are still required to self-monitor for three days. The latest arrangement means under the coming “0-3” plan, travellers will undergo three days of home medical surveillance, during which they are allowed to go out but are prohibited from visiting high-risk premises such as bars and restaurants.

British Airways partners with Red Cross

British Airways has announced a three-year partnership with the British Red Cross as part of its BA Better World Community Fund programme, supporting communities across the UK in times of emergency. Read more

easyJet increases Scottish capacity

easyJet is to place the ninth aircraft at Edinburgh airport as it expands its presence in Scotland. The additional aircraft will provide extra capacity as the carrier plans to operate 39 routes next summer.

LOT Polish airlines to double B737 Max fleet

LOT Polish Airlines has signed an agreement to lease an additional six B737 Max 8 aircraft from Air Lease Corporation, more than doubling the carrier’s max fleet. All six aircraft are set to be delivered this month, adding to the five B737 Max’s LOT already have.

American Airlines debuts new wellness menu

American Airlines has rolled out a new wellness menu for its premium cabin flyers. The wellness meals were created in partnership with the James Beard Foundation, the airline’s culinary partner. In addition, the new wellness meals will also be added to its pre-order menu.

Lufthansa unveils B787 business class seating

In 2023, Lufthansa is set to unveil its new onboard products and its new business-class aircraft. Currently, this B787 is undergoing training flights and the commercial flight will be from Frankfurt to Munich on 19 October 2022.

Air France resumes daily flights equipped with LA Premiere to and from Singapore

From 31 October 2022, Air France will offer its most exclusive designer suite La Premiere on board a daily night flight operated by B777-300ER between Singapore and Paris-Charles de Gaulle. La Premiere guests also benefit from full access to Air France services, including exclusive check-in, counters at Paris-Charles de Gaulle and being driven to the aircraft, receiving a special welcome from the crew.

easyJet selects AirFi for a digital onboard experience

Technology provider AirFi has been selected by easyJet to support the airline in its ambitions to deliver an industry-leading digital onboard experience. Customers flying onboard any of the airline Swiss fleet of 27 A320 family aircraft from Geneva and Basel.

London City embarks on £12 million departure lounge upgrade

London City Airport has outlined a plan for a £12 million upgrade of its existing departure lounge, including more seating and expanded toilet facilities, the new upgrade will enhance the customer experience for its passengers and celebrant London businesses and brands.

London Heathrow to lift passenger cap

Heathrow Airport has announced that the daily passenger quota would be lifted by the end of October. The restriction was implemented in July 2022 to deal with summer travel chaos.

Clayton Hotel Glasgow City opens

Dalata hotel group is delighted to announce the opening of Clayton Glasgow Hotel City. The new 4-star hotel offers 303 air-conditioned rooms. The hotel features natural light meeting rooms, a restaurant and a bar, perfect for leisure and business travellers.

IHG to debut Voco brand in Spain

IHG has signed a multi-property development agreement with Grape Hospitality for five conversion properties in Europe. The signings include the debut of the group’s Voco brand in Spain. The 193-room Voco Madrid Centre Retiro is set to open in April 2024. Alongside this, the opening of the 168-room Crown Plaza Madrid Centre Retiro also opens in April.

Accor to open third Fairmont hotel in Morocco

Fairmont Tazi Palace Tangier is due to open on 1 November 2022 in the northern region of Morocco. The hotel will be located in the city of Tangier situated in northern Morocco, featuring 133 rooms and suites, a spa, multiple restaurants and bars, and conference and banquet spaces. The hotel is situated 10 minutes from the city centre and a 20-minute drive to the airport.

IHG to open dual-branded property at Stockholm Arlanda airport

IHG hotels have announced plans for new-build Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn Express hotels close to Stockholm Arlanda airport. The dual-branded property is expected to open in 2026 and will be situated at both the Swedish capital’s primary airport and the Scandinavian XPO conference and events centre.

Holiday Inn Express brand returns to Dresden

IHG Hotels has signed an agreement with LRO hospitality to rebrand an existing hotel in Dresden under its Holiday Inn Express brand. The 306-room hotel is expected to reopen as part of the IHG brand. Features include a lobby, breakfast area, gym and a flexible co-working/ shared office space.

Transport for London has confirmed that the final Elizabeth Line stop will open in November with the completion of work at Bond Street station. Trains will initially operate every five minutes, with Sunday service starting on November 6, at which stage schedules will increase to trains every three to four minutes, seven days a week.
